Thu 19 Oct Strasbourg (France), l'Aubette 6:00 PM 100 jaar De Stijl - K.Schippers - text/ Marcel Worms - piano
In 'De Bruid van Marcel Duchamp' (The Bride of Marcel Duchamp) well-known Dutch author K.Schippers a conversation between Mondrian and Duchamp in the house of Peggy Guggenheim in New York. They talk about music. On his way home Mondrian is thinking of the boogie woogies, so important for his late paintings. Mondrian leads us to the poems of I.K. Bonset (pseudonym of Theo van Doesburg).
These poems of Bonset K.Schippers once edited and the texts by Duchamp he has translated.
We are watching a short film by an amateur with Mondrian on a fair, the onliest moving images of the artist.
Via Nelly van Doesburg, pianist and partner of Theo van Doesburg, we hear music of the composers she used to play on her dada-evenings. K.Schippers will tell about his meetings with Nelly van Doesburg and about the house in the Alsace Theo constructed together with Cornelis van Eesteren and in which Schippers has been living for a year.
From dada it's an easy and logic transation to Erik Satie. Pianomusic by Satie will be alternated with the absurdistic texts, translated by Schippers and Bernlef, Satie wrote to his scores. The importance of Satie was recognized by Duchamps' friend John Cage, whose music will also sound.
